Aditya Karikala Chola was a ruler of the Chola dynasty who reigned from around 871 to 907 CE. He was the son of Parantaka I and the younger brother of Uttama Chola. Aditya Karikala Chola is known for his military conquests and his patronage of literature and the arts.
During his reign, Aditya Karikala Chola expanded the Chola empire to include parts of present-day Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala. He successfully defeated the Pallava and Pandya kingdoms and established his dominance over the region. He also extended the Chola influence into Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Aditya Karikala Chola was a patron of the arts and literature. He is believed to have composed several poems himself and was a patron of the famous poet Ottakoothar. He also built many temples and other public works, including the Airavatesvara Temple in Darasuram and the Kampahareswarar Temple in Thirubhuvanam.
Aditya Karikala Chola died around 907 CE, and he was succeeded by his son, Parantaka II. He is remembered as one of the great Chola kings and a powerful ruler who expanded the Chola empire and patronized the arts and literature.
