Mukesh Ambani becomes one of the first owners of a Tesla in India
The S 100D model is registered to the Reliance Industries Ltd as its second owner
The popularity of electric vehicles has soared with the arrival of Tesla, and it was only a matter of time before the car manufacturer made a splash in India. Mukesh Ambani is now one of the first owners of a Tesla in India as the S 100D model joins the Lamborghinis and Bentleys in the Ambanis' garage.
According to reports, the S 100D model is registered to Reliance Industries Ltd as the second owner of the vehicle. This is the case when cars are imported as it is first registered in the name of the importer. The vehicle is then registered to the name of the owner who bought it.
The S 100D model has been in the market since 2012. It generates a maximum of 423 PS of power and a massive 660 Nm. It can reach 0-100 kmph in 4.3 seconds. It has a 100 kWh battery and with a fast charger, it can be charged for a range of 396 km in just 42 minutes. Once fully charged, the vehicle can go up to 495 kmph and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. The car is priced at USD 99,990 (roughly Rs 75 lakhs) in the US. Once imported, the price of the Tesla S 100D model would be around 1.5 crore after tax.
Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, had earlier this year said that Tesla hoped to enter Indian markets this year, and if not “definitely next”. Musk had previously cited restrictive policy regulations for the delay in entering the Indian market.
