01/6Five years of Remo: Five interesting facts about the film

Remo, the romantic comedy written and directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan, released five years ago and set the cash registers ringing. The film had Sivakarthikeyan, Keerthy Suresh, Sathish, Rajendran, Saranya Ponvannan, Rajendran, Aadukalam Naren and KS Ravikumar as part of the star cast. While Anirudh handled the music of the film, cinematography was by PC Sreeram and editing by Ruben.

02/6Bakkiyaraj Kannan’s directorial debut

The film marked the debut of Bakkiyaraj Kannan as a director and he later, went on to direct Karthi and Rashmika Mandanna’s Sulthan. Remo was a success at the box office and the film received three nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards South and other awards. It was remade in Odia as Sister Sridevi.

03/6Sivakarthikeyan’s lady get-up becomes the fun element

We hear that Sivakarthikeyan’s lady get-up in the film was inspired by Kamal Haasan’s Avvai Shanmughi. The actor had revealed in an interview that he lost 9 kilos to play the character of nurse Remo (the short form of Regina Motwani, which is a combination of the names of the actresses Regina Cassandra and Hansika Motwani, who had both worked with Sivakarthikeyan earlier).

04/6Second collaboration of Sivakarthikeyan and Keerthy Suresh

The film marked the coming together of the hit pair Sivakarthikeyan and Keerthy Suresh, who had earlier teamed up for the family entertainer Rajini Murugan. It is said that Shruti Haasan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson, too, were approached to play the leading lady, but the role eventually went to Keerthy. Sri Divya made a special appearance in the film.

05/6The film stoked controversy for encouraging stalking

In the film, Sivakarthikeyan’s character stalks Keerthy’s character throughout the film, and this invited a lot of criticism, especially in the aftermath of the Swathi murder incident in Chennai’s Nungambakkam railway station. Campaigns and discussions had also begun against the glorification of stalking in Tamil cinema. Later, Sivakarthikeyan said that he would not have such scenes in his films in future.

06/6Anirudh- Sivakarthikeyan combo, a hit

Just like their earlier films, the coming together of Anirudh and Sivakarthikeyan meant that there was another successful film in their kitty. Remo marked their fifth collaboration. The album featured seven songs and the songs- Remo Nee Kadhalan, Senjitaley, Sirikkadhey and Come Closer- were released before the release of the entire album by composer AR Rahman.
